Overcome Negative Conditioning and Establish Positive Thought Patterns

negative conditioning

Many people suffer the consequences of negative conditioning programmed into their minds starting the day they were born. They were told that a certain goal was too towering or led to believe that “money is the root of all evil.” These beliefs are passed to the subconscious mind, which then manifests them in the person’s experience. If you are the victim of negative thinking, you need to reprogram your subconscious mind with new, positive beliefs. If you are having negative beliefs about money then you may continuously suffer to achieve financial wellbeing in your life. People could not understand the real root cause of it. They think that this is due to all the external factors but truth is just opposite. It is primary due to their internal programming.

Control Over Life

To understand how your life is being controlled by the power of your subconscious mind, examine more carefully how this phenomenon works. Imagine being hypnotized. In such a state, your conscious, reasoning mind is suspended and your subconscious is amenable to suggestion.

Suppose the hypnotist suggests to you that you are the leader of your country. Your subconscious would accept the statement as true. Your subconscious does not reason, choose, or differentiate, as does your conscious mind. You would assume all the self-importance and dignity that you believe to be affiliated to that position.

If you were given a glass of water and told that you were drunk, you would play the role of a drunkard to the best of your ability. If you told the hypnotist that you were allergic to timothy grass, and he placed a glass of distilled water under your nose, telling you at the same time that it was timothy grass, you would generate all the symptoms of an allergic attack; and the physiological and physical reactions would be the same as if the water were actually timothy grass.

If you were told that you were penniless, your demeanour would immediately change and you would assume the attitude of a humble suppliant soliciting donations from passers-by.

In short, you may be made to believe you are anything, such as a statue, dog, soldier, or swimmer; and you will act the part suggested with amazing fidelity to the nature of the suggestion.

Also remember that your subconscious mind always accepts the dominant of two ideas. That is, it accepts your conviction without question, whether your premise is true or false. Infinite Intelligence dwells within our subconscious minds, regardless of what we call it. All the powers of the Infinite are within you.

Our Negative Conditioning

From infancy on, most of us have been negatively programmed. Not knowing how to reject or thwart negative suggestions, we unconsciously accepted them. For example, you may have been told repeatedly, “Oh, you can’t do that.” As a result, you may have developed a self-defeatist attitude. Maybe someone said to you, “You’ll never amount to anything.” Now you have an inferiority complex. Someone may have said: “You mustn’t do that; you’ll fail.” “You haven’t got a chance.” “You are all wrong.” “It’s no use.” “It’s not what you know but who you know.” “The world is going to the dogs.” “What’s the use?” “Nobody cares.” “It’s no use trying so hard.” “You’re getting old; your memory is failing.” “Things are getting worse.” “You just can’t win.” “Pretty soon you’ll be bankrupt.” “Watch out: you’ll get the virus.” “You can’t trust a soul.”

If you accept these negative conditioning, you’re allowing your subconscious mind to be programmed in a very negative way. As a result, you are at a high risk of developing a sense of inferiority, inadequacy, fear, anxiety, or illness, if you haven’t already.

Unless as an adult you program your subconscious mind constructively, which is a reconditioning therapy, the impressions made on you in the past can result in behavior patterns that cause failure in your personal and social life. Reprogramming your subconscious is a means of releasing you from the mass of negative verbal conditioning that might otherwise distort your life pattern, making the development of productive thinking and belief difficult.

Pick up any newspaper,  you can read dozens of items that could sow the seeds of futility, fear, worry, anxiety, and impending doom. If accepted, these thoughts of fear could cause you to lose the will for life. Knowing that you can reject all these negative suggestions by giving your subconscious mind constructive autosuggestions, you counteract all these destructive ideas.

Beware of negative suggestions other people express. You don’t have to be influenced by destructive, negative suggestions. All of us have suffered from it in our childhood and in our teens. If you look back, you can easily recall how parents, friends, relatives, teachers, and associates may have influenced your thinking with their negative suggestions. Study the things said to you, and you will discover much of it was in the form of propaganda. Even that person may not be aware about the consequences of those thoughts in your life. The purpose of much of what was said was to control you or instill fear. Negative suggestions are common in nearly every home, school, and workplace.

Establish Positive Thought Pattern

You have the power to reject negative conditioning and replace negative thought patterns with positive ones. For example, suppose Jon has a nasty temper due to being told frequently that he’s “no fun” or is a “hothead” or due to frustration from often being told that he does not have the talent necessary to engage in a certain activity. One way he can deal with this is to sit down every night prior to sleep and in the morning and the afternoon and affirm as follows:

Henceforth, I shall grow more in good humor. I shall have more joy and happiness and inner peace of mind. Every day I am becoming more and more lovable and understanding. I am now becoming the center of cheer, cordiality, and goodwill to all those around me, infecting them with good humor. This happy, joyous, and cheerful mood is now becoming my normal, natural state of mind, and I am grateful.

Jon can write the desired qualities in his subconscious; he can reprogram his mind; he can redirect it; and the nature of the subconscious is compulsive; therefore, he will be compelled to be friendly, cordial, a man of goodwill.

He can take these statements, reiterate them, repeat them, remind himself that he is writing these in his deeper mind, and whatever is impressed on the subconscious mind comes forth as form, function, experience, and event. For out of the heart of the subconscious springs life.

In the same way, you can reprogram your subconscious mind. Every morning of your life, sit steady, quiet, get relaxed, and affirm as follows:

Divine Law and Order govern my life. Divine Right Action reigns supreme. Divine Success is mine. Divine Harmony is mine. Divine Peace fills my soul. Divine Love saturates my whole being. Divine Abundance is mine. Divine Love goes before me today and every day, making straight, joyous, and glorious my way.

Repeat these truths frequently. Gradually, by repetition, faith, and expectancy, they will enter your subconscious mind. And whatever is impressed on the subconscious is compulsive. Therefore, you will be compelled to lead a life of harmony, peace, love and abundance. (Excerpt is from ‘Grow Rich with the Power of Your Subconscious Mind’ by Joseph Murphy)
